Meet the Cast and Crew of “DEATHTRAP”
Written by: Ira Levin Director: Rob Atkinson
An experienced playwright going through a dry spell, a talented amateur with a winning script, a supportive but reluctant spouse, a clairvoyant neighbour and a friendly attorney. Mix all of them with a remote home and ambitious characters and you have Deathtrap by Ira Levin. How far would you be willing to go to restore your former glory and bank account? What lines would you cross to make it big? Deathtrap weaves an intricate tale of greed and ambition that will leave you wondering what will happen next. Two-thirds thriller and one-third comedy, this play will leave you guessing and laughing.
ROB ATKINSON returns to Village Theatre as Director of DeathTrap
Rob is very pleased to be back at the Village Theatre and sitting in the directors chair for the second time at ECHO. Rob has performed in over 30 productions in the last 14 years and has recently moved to the other side of the table in his capacity as a director. Rob enjoys working with talented actors and helping them create incredible, real characters that you want to live with and relate to for the next 2 hours. Huge thank you to my cast and crew for making this such a joyful production. Have fun!!
JAY NEWMAN
Sidney Bruhl
Jay Newman is as new to ECHO Players as he is to Vancouver Island. Along with his family, he moved to Qualicum Beach this past August from Calgary where he spent nearly thirty years in community theatre. As a performer, director or playwright, he’s been involved in forty plus productions, ranging from Farce to Shakespeare and Pantomime to Gilbert & Sullivan. Outside the theater he is also a published author of a psychological thriller. Jay is very excited for his debut performance in the Village Theatre and many more to follow.
JUDY HIPKIN
Helga ten Dorp
Since Judy’s arrival in Qualicum in 2015, a number of characters (looking suspiciously like her) have popped up onstage, both here and in Nanaimo. You may have seen several maids (one drunk), a dragon boater, a governess, an old cockney, a flying grump, a few grannies or maybe a clairvoyant with a crystal ball. Now, in this show loaded with deadly fun, Helga the Dutch psychic predicts: “You will haff many laffs. Enchoy”
DAWNA SILVER
Myra Bruhl
Dawna is thrilled to play Myra Bruhl in Ira Levin’s wonderfully crafted play Deathtrap. Will Myra’s devotion to her murder mystery writer husband grant her the happy ending she seeks? Stay tuned to find out! Dawna thanks Rob Atkinson for his wonderful direction and for the opportunity to perform with ECHO Players once again! Thank you to the talented cast and crew for the fun, warm, and supportive working environment.
KEVIN DEAN
Porter Milgrim
This is my first production with ECHO Players. I’ve wanted to get involved since my wife and I retired to Oceanside in 2017 from Victoria. I’ve been involved in theater in Victoria with St Luke’s Players and before that close to 20 years with Mayne Island Little Theatre and high school drama classes. I owe my love of theater to my Mom who had my brothers and sister and I hooked on Hollywood musicals, the Carol Burnett show and Bugs Bunny.
THOMMY HUTSON
Clifford Anderson
Thommy Hutson is a writer, producer, director, and performer. He has brought to life film and television projects in multiple genres—holiday, thriller, horror, and documentary—that have aired on Netflix, AMC+, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Lifetime, Hulu, and more. As an author, his published books span holiday romance, YA horror, and non-fiction. He has taken the stage at Busch Gardens, Holiday World, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Astroworld, and Darien Lake. Other productions include Anything Goes, Bye Bye Birdie, The Author’s Voice, Harvey, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Thommy is thrilled to be making his Village Theatre debut in Deathtrap.
JUDI & MIKE ANDREWS
Producers
Judi - hadn’t had anything to do with theatre since high school until coming to the Island. We had been to theatre at the Citadel in Edmonton but only as patrons. We first attended the Village Theatre in 2007 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Shortly after she became a box office volunteer. Since joining the ECHO Players she has become the program coordinator and a producer of many plays.
Mike - I am on old dude who loves community theatre! I have been on stage and behind the scenes and am currently serving my fourth term as President of ECHO Players. Deathtrap is yet again another wonderful production for you to enjoy.
